BENNINGTON TOWNSHIP ANNOUNCES NEW FIRE AND EMS SERVICES PARTNERSHIP

BENNINGTON TOWNSHIP, OHIO – Bennington Township began partnering with the Homer Fire District for Fire and EMS services this week.

This follows the discovery by Bennington Township Board of Trustees that levy funding that provides fire/EMS services was being used without prudent fiscal management by the existing fire/EMS partner, Hartford Township.

Township Trustee Cindy Powell said that the trustees quickly moved to establish a more secure service agreement going forward.

“We were presented with a rapidly deteriorating situation in which we were no longer confident that fire/EMS responses would be reliable for Bennington Township residents within the next week,” township trustee Cindy Powell said. “And while we have no doubt the firefighters and EMS personnel who’ve been serving our township are qualified and dedicated, the partnership was no longer financially secure for Bennington Township.”

Hartford Township will continue 24/7 service until Homer Fire District can transition to around the clock coverage. The temporary agreement with Homer Fire District is part of a larger conversation with both Homer Fire District and Monroe Township in establishing a long-term agreement.

“Residents need to know that we will always ensure their safety and that this decision was not taken lightly,” Powell said. “You and your family will continue to be protected by fire and EMS services 24/7.”

“Our top priority is making sure the residents of Bennington Township have access to quick responding fire and EMS services 24 hours a day and 365 days a year,” said Powell. “And I’m thankful that township trustee Hatfield, trustee Day, and I were able to come together and move swiftly to resolve this.”
